#7 Meet Sid, Mel, Yan & Nic

Come meet the squad

This week does not contain as much obvious changes as some of the previous weeks, but it does contain at least as many important improvements as all the previous do. You don't believe me? Check it out yourself! ;)

Particles:
A perfect example of subtle, but important implementations are particle systems. Since we are nearing the end of our journey, the focus heavily shifts towards implementing elements of player feedback such as particles.

To make the player more aware of the effects of the slippery platform, a dripping effect implying some sort of fluid (and thus slippery) surface has been created. Caution! Wet Floor!

Another (already implemented) particle is the shield particle. If  the player picks up a shield he is protected against the first incoming hit of both player and terrain.

Bugfixes/tweaks/invisible mechanics:
You might not be aware of this, but it appears that games should be bug-free and fun when they release, hence why bugs and little tweaks got a lot of our attention past week. Some examples are:

- Object spawns such as jetpacks, armor & falling branches have been added and already tweaked.
- A boundary at the top has been added to prevent players from sprinting to the top outside of the playing field.
- Changes to the foreground as well as the background have been made to improve the player experience.
- ... (more minor stuff that is not very interesting)

Sid, Mel, Yan and Nic:

Maybe the most manifesting change this week are the unique characters. From left to right you get introduced to Mel, Nic, Sid and Yan. I have warned you enough, but make sure to not get caught up in the cuteness of these little devils!

Coming soon

  • The heavy chargeable attack will be finished by next week.
  • Even more particles!
  • A mechanically finished game ;))
